Curry as a verb - ignifies an international style of cooking, usually ferring stewing and using combinations of traditional herbs and spices.
Oxford English dictionary prefers the Tamil "Kari" as the word of origin. The define curry as "a preparation of meat, fish, fruit or vegetables, cooked with a quantity of bruised spices and tumeric; used as a relish or flavouring, especially for dishes composed of or served with rice." What are the benefits of curry in your diet? Every herb and spice used in curries acts as a natural preservative. They all have antiseptic values and many are carminatives, which expel gas from the stomach and intestines. Freshly ground green chiles are high in vitamin C, while red chile powder contains significant amounts of Vitamin A. Tumeric is a great cure for skin diseases. Garlic and onions are "blood cleansers" and ward off colds in the winter because they are potent germ destroyers. Keep this in mind all you skiers, snowshoers and ice climbers! The total effect - curries are ultimately good for the body. It begins with an anticipation ... caused by the appetizing "aroma" of the curry titillating your taste buds. Next digestive juices are secreted in the mouth. Then begins the real pleasure, tasting and enjoying new and exciting flavours of this delicious and creative cuisine.
Here at Shalimar we ask everyone what degree of spiciness they would enjoy with their meal. Indian food is not spicy, unless that is what you desire, then we can prepare any degree you would enjoy.
We create our cuisine with lots of flavour using traditional blends of herbs and spices as described above. This results in a fantastic, flavourful and healthy dining experience.
We do not use M.S.G. or Ghee "a blend of purified butter and coconut milk high in fat and cholesterol", in our cooking. We prefer to use healthy and flavourful ingredients.
